What is Theater Heat? Each hour, NewsPlanetAI processes ~100 articles from 60+ global sources. Every article is classified into one of 7 geographic theaters. The heat score reflects the volume and recency of coverage — higher heat means more articles and more recent attention. Scores use exponential decay with a 24-hour half-life so breaking news spikes and then fades naturally.
Baselinesare running averages calculated over months of data. When a theater's heat significantly exceeds its baseline, it signals unusual attention — a developing crisis, a major event, or a sudden policy shift. The deviation score (in standard deviations) quantifies how unusual the current level is.
